Female kangaroos, called does or flyers, are known for their strong maternal instincts and unique reproductive biology. Like all kangaroos, they have a pouch, called a marsupium, where they carry and nurse their joeys until they are ready to explore the world outside. Female red kangaroos are generally smaller than males but are incredibly agile and powerful, capable of hopping long distances to travel or escape danger. Caring for Bella-Roo and Barbie has allowed us to observe the gentle, nurturing side of female kangaroos up close while teaching guests about their behavior, biology, and the importance of responsible animal care.
