Livestock

Livestock

In 2026, we plan to expand our livestock production with a focus on holistic, sustainable animal management using animals raised right here on our farm. Our approach emphasizes the health and well-being of each animal through proper nutrition, pasture rotation, natural care practices, and careful breeding. By raising our own goats, sheep, cows, buffalo, pigs, and chickens, we can maintain complete oversight of their growth and development, ensuring they thrive in a safe and nurturing environment. This holistic approach not only supports stronger, healthier animals but also allows us to provide guests and potential buyers with ethically raised livestock. Through careful stewardship of our animals, we aim to create a sustainable farm system that balances productivity with compassion, natural care, and respect for God’s creation.

Longhorn Cattle
Texas Longhorn cattle are a hardy, adaptable breed known for their distinctive long, curved horns and strong resistance to disease and harsh environmental conditions. Originally developed in the United States, Longhorns are efficient foragers and thrive on pasture-based systems. Nutritionally, they perform well on grass and forage diets, requiring minimal grain supplementation when managed properly. Their ability to convert lower-quality forage into usable energy makes them well-suited for sustainable and holistic farming practices.

Highland Cattle
Highland cattle are a traditional Scottish breed recognized for their long, shaggy coats and gentle temperaments. They are exceptionally cold-hardy but also adapt well to warmer climates with proper care. Highlands are efficient grazers that do well on pasture and hay-based diets, often requiring less feed than many modern cattle breeds. Their nutrition typically consists of quality forage, grasses, and hay, with mineral supplementation as needed to support overall health. Both Longhorn and Highland cattle fit well into pasture-based, holistic animal production systems focused on animal welfare and sustainability.

Nigerian Dwarf goats are a small, hardy dairy breed originally from West Africa and are well known for their friendly personalities and adaptability. Despite their compact size, they are efficient producers and are often raised for milk, breeding, and as companion livestock. Nigerian Dwarfs are intelligent, easy to handle, and do well in a variety of climates, making them a popular choice for small farms and family operations.

Nutritionally, Nigerian Dwarf goats thrive on a forage-based diet that includes quality pasture, browse, and hay. They are excellent browsers and benefit from access to shrubs and weeds in addition to grasses. Their diet should be supplemented with loose minerals formulated specifically for goats, along with clean, fresh water at all times. Grain is typically fed in limited amounts, primarily to lactating does, growing kids, or breeding animals, while overfeeding grain is avoided to maintain rumen health. This balanced, natural approach supports overall health, productivity, and longevity.

Dorper and Katahdin sheep are popular hair sheep breeds known for their hardiness, efficiency, and high-quality meat production. Dorper sheep originated in South Africa and are easily recognized by their white bodies and black heads, though all-white varieties also exist. They are fast-growing, adaptable to a wide range of climates, and low-maintenance due to their shedding coats, which eliminate the need for shearing. Katahdin sheep were developed in the United States and are valued for their strong parasite resistance, excellent mothering abilities, and adaptability to diverse environments. Like Dorpers, Katahdins are hair sheep that shed naturally and thrive in pasture-based systems, making them ideal for sustainable and holistic farming operations.

Meat from Dorper and Katahdin sheep is known for its mild flavor, tenderness, and leanness compared to traditional wool breeds. Lamb from these breeds is typically lower in fat and cholesterol while remaining high in protein, iron, zinc, and essential B vitamins such as B12 and niacin. Their ability to efficiently convert forage into muscle contributes to consistent meat quality. When raised on pasture, Dorper and Katahdin lamb often contains higher levels of beneficial omega-3 fatty acids and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), making it a nutritious, wholesome protein option for consumers seeking naturally raised meat.

Water buffalo are hardy, versatile livestock well known for their calm temperaments, strong builds, and ability to thrive in pasture-based systems. They are commonly raised for meat, milk, and draft purposes and are especially well suited for grazing environments, as they efficiently utilize grasses and forage that other livestock may not. Water buffalo are social animals that do well in herds and are valued for their resilience, longevity, and gentle nature when properly managed, making them an excellent fit for holistic and sustainable farming practices.

Water buffalo meat, often referred to as buffalo or carabeef, is lean, flavorful, and highly nutritious. It contains less fat, fewer calories, and lower cholesterol than traditional beef while still being high in protein, iron, zinc, and essential vitamins such as B12. Because of its leanness, buffalo meat is often considered a heart-healthy red meat option. When raised on pasture, water buffalo produce meat with a clean, mild flavor and beneficial fatty acid profiles, making it an excellent choice for consumers seeking naturally raised, nutrient-dense protein.
